Our Wheels Started Turning: A 32-Year Legacy

For over three decadesPedal Power has been a proud, family-owned part of the Hawke's Bay cycling community. Our story is one of dedication, craftsmanship, and a lasting commitment to the region we call home.

The Apprenticeship and The Return

The foundation of our expertise was laid well before our doors officially opened. Ross honed his skills by completing an apprenticeship under his uncle Mark at Mark’s successful bike shop in Whanganui. That trade knowledge became the perfect base for his next big step. When Rob Taylor had the vision to start a new venture in Taradale, Ross seized the opportunity to return home to Hawke’s Bay — and in 1992, Pedal Power was officially born on Puketapu Road.

How it started

Growth, Relocation, and Family Expansion

A few years into the journey, Pedal Power had outgrown its first home and relocated to Gloucester Street. Around this time, Lara joined the team to help manage operations, strengthening the family focus of the shop. Not long after, Jon came on board, enhancing our technical expertise and expanding what Pedal Power could offer.

How its going

The Avanti Plus Chapter and The Rebrand

Later on, Jon and Rob joined forces to establish AvantiPlus Hastings. When Ross and Lara came on board, the shop evolved once again, leading to a rebrand as My Ride.
